The City of Winkler’s Water Treatment Plant Operators are vital to our community. They are the ones who ensure that we have safe, quality drinking water. What You’ll Do:
Working together with the water treatment plant team, you will be involved in various activities in analyzing and treating drinking water and in maintaining water treatment facilities and equipment.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting daily water analysis and chemical treatment to ensure strict water quality standards are met.
  • Maintenance of equipment, buildings, and site facilities.
  • Inspection and maintenance of water supply wells, pipelines, pumps, and reservoirs.
  • Respond to emergencies affecting water supply and infrastructure.
  • Assist in keeping daily and monthly reports, logs, and maintenance records.
  • Adjusting plant and treatment processes and chemicals.
  • Janitorial cleaning of facilities and work areas.
  • Follow all safe work procedures.
  • Keep supervisor informed and up to date on all tasks and projects.
  • Report required equipment and facility maintenance to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You’ll Need:

  • Ability to work well as a part of a team that eagerly does their best to provide professional and quality service to the community.
  • Grade XII education or equivalent is required in order to qualify for provincial certifications through the Manitoba Water and Wastewater Facility Operator Certification Program.
  • A relevant post-secondary degree is an asset (science, mathematics, environmental studies).
  • At least a class 5 Manitoba driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to participate in the required safety training.
  • Knowledge of water chemistry and testing.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Clear written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to distinguish colours.
  • Safety conscious in all matters related to utilities, staff, and the public.
  • Must be willing to continually update learning to maintain or upgrade certification.

Job Details:

  • Full-time (40hrs/week), permanent position.
  • Required to work on-call, weekend shifts, and holidays as part of a regular rotating schedule.
  • Mostly indoor work, but also regular outdoor work year-round, possibly in inclement weather.
  • Work requires the use of PPE.
  • May be required to climb ladders, lift heavy loads (30kg), work in confined spaces, and operate equipment and vehicles.
  • Hazards associated with working near mechanical equipment, working in a very loud environment, using hand tools and power tools, operating vehicles, working in all weather conditions, working at heights, working in confined spaces, and working with hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • Full benefits package that includes an employer matched pension plan, dental, vision, extended health, travel coverage, and more.
  • Pay Range is $21.52 to $30.35, depending on experience. Operators with Class 2 certifications or higher may be eligible for a higher pay range.
